Your first PIX4Dcatch project from A-Z

This article provides step-by-step instructions for using PIX4Dcatch, covering everything from initial setup to capturing and processing your 3D scanned projects.

 

PIX4Dcatch is a mobile application designed for terrestrial 3D scanning. It uses your mobile device's integrated sensors (camera, LiDAR, IMU, and GPS) to capture high-quality spatial data, which can then be processed into accurate 3D models using photogrammetry.

Requirements

  • A mobile device compatible with PIX4Dcatch. See the list of recommended devices here.
  • The PIX4Dcatch application.
  • A valid PIX4D license. For more information regarding which licenses enable PIX4Dcatch, please consult the PIX4Dcatch licensing page.

Follow the next steps to get started:

1. Download and install PIX4Dcatch

To download the latest version of PIX4Dcatch, visit the Apple Store

2. Log in 

It is necessary to have a valid license or obtain a trial license to log into PIX4Dcatch.

3. PIX4Dcatch Overview

The PIX4Dcatch interface is designed with ease-of-use in mind.

4. Capture a project

To capture a project using the device's built-in GPS location,  select Integrated GPS Sensor. Note that the accuracy of this method is typically within a few meters. For more information on how to capture a project, click here.

Recommended Capture Practices:

  • Maintain a slow and steady pace.
  • Tilt the device to ensure all surface details are captured.
  • Avoid capturing in low-light environments.
  • Avoid retracing identical paths.

5. Process the images

Once the project is saved, the images can be processed in PIX4Dcloud or exported for local processing with PIX4Dmatic.

PIX4Dcloud

Use the upload button Upload to upload your project for fast, shareable reconstructions. For more information on how to process, click here.

PIX4Dmatic

PIX4Dmatic Standard or PIX4Dmatic Pro allows local processing of PIX4Dcatch projects.

How to process in PIX4Dmatic

  1. Tap the Export  icon and select Export All Data - PIX4Dmatic (OPF). For more information, consult Using OPF from PIX4Dcatch to PIX4Dmatic
  2. Double-click on the project.opf file.
  3. PIX4Dmatic will launch automatically, displaying the project name and file path.
  4. Click Start.
