Inputs - PIX4Dcloud



Inputs to PIX4Dcloud can be images and text files with ground control points coordinates for cloud processing or 2D/3D results for visualization.

Note: A custom .p4d file (containing customized processing options, custom geolocation files, a processing area, etc..) can also be uploaded to PIX4Dcloud if the project is created in PIX4Dmapper and from there uploaded for processing. More information in: How to upload project files from PIX4Dmapper to PIX4Dcloud.


  • At least 6 images are required.
  • The formats in the following table are supported.
Warning: Do not modify images, i.e. do not rotate or edit the images. Modifying images alters the geometrical properties of the camera and may deteriorate the quality of the results.

Note: Orthomosaics cannot be generated from .tiff images with 10, 12, 14, and 16 bits-per-sample pixels. Please note that this applies only to orthomosaics, not reflectance and index maps.
Note: PIX4Dcloud is optimized for projects with up to 4000 images and cannot accept more input images per project. The number of images that can be successfully processed depends on the characteristics of the project. For more information: How many images can PIX4Dcloud servers process?
Warning: PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced alone doesn't support the processing of rjpeg and grayscale thermal images. PIX4Dmapper can be used to process those images. See P rocessing thermal images using PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced and PIX4Dmapper.

Ground Control Points (GCPs) file

Ground Control Points (GCPs) are used for precisely georeferencing the project.

Important: This type of file can be uploaded only with PIX4Dcloud Advanced in order to automatically detect and mark GCPs on the images.
It is still possible to include GCPs into a PIX4Dcloud dataset. To do so, upload the project files from PIX4Dmapper as described in How to use GCPs for processing on PIX4Dcloud.

A text file containing from four to seven columns per line and a comma (,) to separate the values. No header included.

  • Four columns: ID, coordinates
  • Five columns: ID, type, coordinates
  • Six columns: ID, coordinates, Accuracy Horz, Accuracy Vert
  • Seven columns: ID, type, coordinates, Accuracy Horz, Accuracy Vert

Inputs for visualization

A dataset can consist of uploaded results only. In this case, no images are processed but the uploaded files are processed for their web-visualization and optimization.

The photogrammetric files that can be uploaded and displayed as results are the following:

  • Orthomosaic (.GeoTIFF),
  • DSM (.GeoTIFF),
  • Index (.GeoTIFF): NDVI map or other index maps
  • Point Cloud (.las, .laz),
  • 3D Textured Mesh (.obj).

There are some limits in terms of file size and formats for file uploads:

  • Orthomosaic: one single GeoTIFF file supported, 50 GB maximum
  • DSM: one single GeoTIFF file supported, 50 GB maximum
  • Index: one single GeoTIFF file supported, 50 GB maximum
  • Point Cloud: one single LAS or LAZ file supported.
  • 3D Textured Mesh: one single OBJ+MTL+JPG set of files supported
    • OBJ: Maximum 1 GB.
    • JPG: Maximum 16k x 16k.
