Decommissioning Notice: PIX4Dmapper Legacy Processing Pipeline in Cloud Products

As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance our development infrastructure, Pix4D is retiring our PIX4Dmapper legacy pipeline from cloud products. This transition aims to provide improved performance, security, and scalability.

Key Dates and information

  • Decommissioning Date: February 28th, 2026

  • New Pipeline Availability: Effective immediately

  • Licenses workflow affected:
    • PIX4Dmapper + PIX4Dcloud.
    • PIX4Dmapper + PIX4Dcloud Advanced.
    • PIX4Dengine Cloud API.

Reasons for Decommissioning

  • The legacy pipeline, built on older technology, has limitations in scalability and security.

  • The legacy pipeline lacks support for modern development tools and practices.

  • Maintenance of the old system has become resource-intensive.

  • The new pipeline offers enhanced features, including faster build times and better integration capabilities. The new pipeline offers the following benefits:

    • Faster dataset processing.
    • More modern outputs.

Impact on Users

Users currently utilizing the legacy pipeline will need to transition to the new system before the decommissioning date. Post-February 28th, 2026, the following changes will be noticeable:

PIX4Dengine Cloud API processing:

Processing will be handled exclusively by the new pipeline.

PIX4Dmapper + PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced workflow:

  • PIX4Dmapper datasets uploads to PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced for processing:

    • After February, 2026: The "Upload Project Files..." button will be accessible from PIX4Dmapper, but projects uploaded to PIX4Dcloud will be processed with the following changes:
      Upload project files
      • Processing: Datasets will be processed with the new pipeline using a nadir or oblique template.
      • Cloud Input: Only input images, the CRS from the .p4d file, and potentially GCPs/Marks will be considered.
      • Crucial: All other settings in the .p4d file will be ignored.

        • No Custom Settings Applied.

  • PIX4Dmapper datasets uploads +  PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced processing + Export to PIX4Dmapper from PIX4Dcloud:

    • The "Export to PIX4Dmapper" option (zip download) in PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced will not be available after February 2026.

  • PIX4Dmapper datasets uploads + PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced processing + Download Project Files.. from PIX4Dmapper:

    • The "Download Project Files..." button in PIX4Dmapper will become greyed out for new projects processed in PIX4Dcloud after February 2026.

Transition Steps

Pix4D is committed to ensuring a smooth transition by providing users with a more robust and efficient deployment experience. To better understand which alternative Pix4D products may replace the PIX4Dmapper pipeline or support other processing workflows, users should contact  Pix4D Support at https://www.pix4d.com/support/.

  1. Alternatives to specific PIX4Dmapper features in other Pix4D products are:
    1. Multispectral imagery: PIX4Dfields.
    2. Fisheye lens camera: PIX4Dcloud and PIX4Dmatic.
    3. Images without geotags (arbitrary): PIX4Dmatic.
    4. Manually marking MTP/2D GCPs/3D GCPs/Checkpoints: PIX4Dmatic.
    5. Export 3D mesh:
      1. .ply file format: PIX4Dmatic.
      2. 3D mesh color balance:  PIX4Dmatic (the texture file is color balanced, but at the tile level).
    6. Export Grid DSM:  PIX4Dsurvey (grid of points).
    7. Export orthomosaic (.kml file format): PIX4Dmatic.
    8. Contour lines: PIX4Dsurvey.
    9. Digital Terrain Model (DTM): PIX4Dsurvey.
    10. Index maps: PIX4Dfields.
  2. Other forms of processing:
    1. Process the datasets directly in PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced: New dataset > Dataset creation > Upload images - PIX4Dcloud.
    2. Use the Share to PIX4Dcloud feature: Users can process the dataset using the proposed alternatives, and once the results are generated, upload them to PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced for visualization. For more information:

  3. Update Configurations: Modify the project configurations to align with the new pipeline requirements.
