Working with Gaussian Splat Models in PIX4Dcloud

Gaussian splat models can be generated, visualized, and downloaded in PIX4Dcloud. This article provides an overview of the available workflows, from model creation to visualization and file export.

How to Generate a Gaussian Splat Model

Gaussian splat models are supported in PIX4Dcloud and PIX4Dcloud Advanced for projects created using one of the following methods:

  • Using PIX4Dcatch: Capture a terrestrial dataset with PIX4Dcatch, enable Gaussian Splatting as part of the processing options, and upload it to PIX4Dcloud or PIX4Dcloud Advanced. For detailed instructions, see Creating a project via PIX4Dcatch.

  • Creating a project directly in PIX4Dcloud Advanced: When setting up a new aerial dataset in PIX4Dcloud Advanced, select Gaussian Splat as part of the processing options. For more information, see Processing options in PIX4Dcloud

Note: The availability of Gaussian splat models depends on the license type and project source. Datasets created with PIX4Dcatch support Gaussian splat generation with both PIX4Dcloud and PIX4Dcloud Advanced licenses. In contrast, datasets created directly through the cloud project wizard require a PIX4Dcloud Advanced license to access Gaussian splat outputs.

How to Visualize a Gaussian Splat Model in the 3D Viewer

Once the Gaussian splat output is generated, it becomes available under the Layer menu of the project. To view the model:

  1. Open the project in PIX4Dcloud/or PIX4Dcloud Advanced.

  2. Activate the 3D viewer in the interface. 3d switcher

  3. [optional] Enable, if it is needed it,  the Gaussian splat layer to display the model.

How to Download the Gaussian Splat Model

To download the Gaussian splat model file:

  1. Open the project in PIX4Dcloud.

  2. Navigate to the Files & Reports section.

  3. Under Gaussian splat, click Download to retrieve the file.
