Processing RGB Imagery from Skydio Drones with Pix4D Software

Skydio drones, including the X10, X10 with Skydio RTK/PPK, S2, S2+, and X2 models, are fully compatible with Pix4D software, including PIX4Dmapper, PIX4Dmatic, PIX4Dcloud, PIX4Dfields, and PIX4Dreact.

PIX4Dmatic

Beginning with version 1.74, PIX4Dmatic fully supports all Skydio drones. All calibration methods are supported without the need for additional geolocation and orientation files.

PIX4Dmapper

Skydio drones generate a separate CSV file that contains geolocation and orientation data for each image. This file is essential when using the Accurate Geolocation and Orientation calibration method in PIX4Dmapper.

Required Files for Calibration

The Accurate Geolocation and Orientation calibration method in PIX4Dmapper requires the CSV file containing geolocation and orientation values.

Note: The orientation CSV file is not required for Standard calibration in PIX4Dmapper.

Accessing the Geolocation and Orientation CSV File

After the drone completes its flight, an additional file will be available on the SD card.

  • Pix4D_Mapper_geolocation.csv

Importing Files into PIX4Dmapper

To process imagery in PIX4Dmapper, import the Pix4D_Mapper_geolocation.csv file. Then, use the Image Properties Editor to link the geolocation and orientation data with the images.

For detailed instructions, please refer to the How to import/export the images geolocation and orientation - PIX4Dmapper.

Note: The orientation CSV file is not needed nor applicable for PIX4Dfields or PIX4Dreact, as these programs require imagery to be captured at nadir. For more information, please refer to the PIX4Dfields or PIX4Dreact Frequently Asked Questions.

Note: When .jpg thermal images are processed in PIX4Dmapper, PIX4Dmatic, PIX4Dfields, or PIX4Dreact, these images are interpreted as RGB images. Consequently, the generated orthomosaic will not contain temperature values. As a result, while users can generate an orthomosaic for visualization, the temperature data associated with individual objects or pixels will not be accessible from the resulting map.
