How to reactivate a PIX4Dmatic Pro trial
Trial reset for PIX4Dmatic on May 7, 2026
A one-time trial reset will be available for all users as of May 7, 2026. Regardless of whether a trial for PIX4Dmatic or PIX4Dsurvey has been used in the past, or if PIX4Dmapper has been used for an extended period and there is interest in evaluating the next-generation processing engines, a new PIX4Dmatic Pro 15-day trial can now be activated.
This initiative is intended to enable the user community to evaluate the latest performance enhancements, including robust calibration, Gaussian Splatting, surface comparison, and cut-fill workflows, as well as seamless integration with PIX4Dcloud (upload and download).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Eligibility
The trial reset applies to:
-
Existing Pix4D accounts: Even if a trial for PIX4Dmatic was previously activated and expired.
-
Organizations: The "one trial per organization" restriction remains.
-
PIX4Dmapper users: Users currently using PIX4Dmapper are encouraged to use their existing credentials to test the speed and scale of PIX4Dmatic.
How to activate the new trial
To request a trial license, the user must have either the Owner or Manager role within the organization. For more information on roles, see Organization management - Roles.
Trial activation can be completed by following these steps:
-
Open this link: start a PIX4Dmatic Pro trial.
-
Follow the trial creation steps in your browser.
-
Ensure that the latest version of the software is installed. Download the installer here: Download Pix4D software.
-
Launch PIX4Dmatic and log in using the correct Pix4D credentials (email and password).
-
Select the correct organization and trial license.
-
Start testing!
Project file compatibility
Before opening existing projects with the latest version during your trial, please note the following:
-
Forward compatibility only: Projects updated and saved in a newer version of PIX4Dmatic cannot be opened in older versions of the software.
-
Recommendation: If it is necessary to maintain the ability to open a project in an older version (when S&U has expired), it is strongly recommended to:
-
Creating a copy of the project.
or -
Starting a new project from scratch to test the new version's performance.

What’s changed?
Last updated on May 7, 2026
If PIX4Dmatic was evaluated in the past and did not meet specific workflow requirements, the extent of the engine’s evolution may be unexpected. Years of user feedback have been incorporated to bridge the gap between photogrammetry and professional surveying. The following section provides a summary of the major milestones that may have been missed.
Since 2026
-
Gaussian Splatting: Experience a new way to visualize 3D data with high-fidelity "splats" that provide a walkable, photorealistic digital reality, far surpassing traditional mesh for visual inspections.
-
Surface analysis: New "Cut/Fill" analysis tools and surface comparison features directly within the Surveying panel.
-
Direct Cloud-to-Desktop Sync: Download projects processed in PIX4Dcloud directly into PIX4Dmatic to continue local surveying or refining.
-
Processing Control: Added the ability to Pause and Resume processing.
Since 2025
-
Unification of PIX4Dmatic and PIX4Dsurvey: Starting with version 2.0, PIX4Dmatic has become a single, unified application. Switch between programs is no longer needed; all vectorization, DTM generation, and surveying tools from PIX4Dsurvey are now integrated directly into the PIX4Dmatic interface.
-
External LiDAR Import: External LiDAR point clouds (e.g., from terrestrial scanners or airborne sensors) can be imported directly into PIX4Dmatic and used as a basis for mesh generation, DSM creation, or vectorization
-
Orthomosaic editor: The introduction of a dedicated editor with vertex editing (move, insert, delete) for patches, allowing the user to fix moving objects or artifacts without re-processing.
-
DTM and contours: Automated digital terrain model (DTM) generation and contour line extraction from the DTM.
-
PIX4Dmapper project import: The ability to open
.p4dfiles directly in PIX4Dmatic, allowing to take advantage of PIX4Dmatic’s faster processing and modern toolset. -
Hybrid processing: Direct upload to PIX4Dcloud for cloud-based processing.
-
Data cleaning: New outlier filter to automatically remove noise from point clouds.
Since 2024
-
3D mesh engine: A completely rewritten engine for better geometry and sharper textures, optimized for both architectural and topographic datasets.
-
Section views and orthoplane generation: New workflows for generating section views and orthoplanes, facilitating high-precision CAD work directly from your 3D data.
-
Customizable quality reports: Create professional, tailored reports to provide stakeholders with the specific metrics and project details they require.
-
AI-powered masking: Automated masking tools that use AI to identify and remove moving objects or obstructed areas, improving the quality of your final outputs.
Since 2023 and before
-
Seamless cloud integration: Effortlessly share projects to PIX4Dcloud for easier collaboration and web-based visualization.
-
AI object selection: Smart selection tools to quickly isolate and manage specific features within your point cloud or mesh.
-
AutoGCP (AI): Significant time savings with automated detection and marking of Ground Control Points (GCPs) using advanced machine learning.
-
Sky filter (AI): Automatic removal of sky artifacts from im
Tips for your trial
-
Familiarize the UI: For transitions from PIX4Dmapper, activating Light Mode in the settings is recommended to provide a more familiar visual experience..
-
Benchmark it: Take a project that used to take 10 hours in PIX4Dmapper; many users see this drop to under 4 hours in the current version of PIX4Dmatic.
-
Try the mesh and Gaussian splats: Beyond the rewritten 3D mesh engine's improved geometry, be sure to generate a Gaussian splat to experience a new level of photorealistic detail and "walkable" digital reality (see Recommended hardware - PIX4Dmatic).
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
My previous trial expired. Can I get another one?
Yes. This reset applies to everyone. Simply switch to the Discovery mode to request a new trial.
I don't see the "Start Trial" button.
Switch to the Discovery mode to ensure the “Start trial” button shows.
Will my old projects be affected?
No. Activating a new trial will not affect your existing project files (.p4m, .p4d, or .p4s). You can open your previous projects and continue working with the full features of the software for the duration of the trial.
However, opening an old project in the latest version will prompt a project migration. Once saved, you cannot revert to an older version. Consider working on a copy or a new project.
Can I export my results during this trial?
PIX4Dmatic trials are intended for technical evaluation. While you have access to all processing features, export functionalities are limited. To enable full exports, a commercial license is required, or please contact us.
What if I don't see the "Start Trial" button?
If the button does not appear after logging in, please ensure you are using the latest version of the software. If the issue persists, contact our Technical Support team.
