Editing the point cloud helps clean the 3D model by reducing noise, enhancing precision, and improving visual rendering. This article explains in detail how to edit the point cloud in PIX4Dmatic.
Prerequisites
In PIX4Dmatic, the Calibration step must be completed before generating the point cloud. Once Calibration is successful, the Dense point cloud can be generated. The Depth point cloud and Depth & Dense Fusion steps are optional processing steps.
Point cloud tools
All the available point clouds are accessible in the Content panel. To display or hide all point clouds in bulk or individually click on the display icon (). The settings icon
next to each point cloud provides options to adjust the point size, select all points, or delete them.

Selection tools
The following selection tools for the point cloud(s) are available (in 3D view):
Tool | Keyboard shortcut | Description |
Simple selection | S | A single point is selected |
Rectangle selection | R | All points inside the rectangle created will be selected |
Polygon selection | J | All points inside the polygons created will be selected |
Object selection | Y | An object will be selected, based on machine learning algorithms |
Color selection | Shift+C | All points with similar colors within the defined range and tolerance will be selected. |
Edit tools
By using the selection tools, single or multiple points can be selected (highlighted in pink) and edited:
- Assign to > Apply: Assign and classify the selected point(s) to any ASPRS class.
Tip: For more accurate selection enable the Select only > Point clouds. The selection tools apply only to the point cloud(s) and do not affect other elements such as geometries in layers, cameras, or tie points.
- Right-click: Enables the context menu. The context menu allows for:
- Invert selection: Reverses the current selection.
- Disable point cloud points: Disables the selected points. The disable points are now listed in the Content panel. The setting icon
allows the display of either All points or the Disabled only. The toggle
displays or hides the disabled points.
Note:
- To restore disabled points, use the Undo shortcut (Ctrl/Command +Z) immediately after disabling them.
- The disabled points can't be further edited with the selection tools.
