Processing projects - PIX4Dcatch
PIX4Dcatch projects can be processed into 3D models either by uploading them to PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced or by exporting and processing them locally in PIX4Dmatic or PIX4Dmapper, with various upload, multi-upload, and re-upload options available depending on project settings and licenses.

Process on the desktop with PIX4Dmapper or PIX4Dmatic
When a PIX4Dcatch project is saved, it can be processed into a 3D model. PIX4D’s processing stack provides multiple options for processing the captured data. Projects can be:
- Uploaded and processed directly on PIX4Dcloud or PIX4Dcloud Advanced for fast online results.
- Exported and processed locally using PIX4Dmatic or PIX4Dmapper.
Upload to PIX4Dcloud / PIX4Dcloud Advanced
Uploading and processing to PIX4Dcloud / PIX4Dcloud Advanced can be done at the simple click of a button and provide quick shareable 3D reconstructions.
Important: A PIX4Dcloud or PIX4Dcloud Advanced license is required to upload the project for cloud processing.
Upload processing options
When a project is uploaded, the Upload Dataset window appears with several processing options:

Account and Organization:
If multiple organizations are available, the dataset can be uploaded to a selected organization. The organization’s credits are used, and the dataset can be assigned to one of its sites. For more information: Organization management.
Upload location:
If multiple organizations are available, the dataset can be uploaded to a selected organization. The organization’s credits are used, and the dataset can be assigned to one of its sites. For more information: Organization management.
Records
Relevant project information such as location, purpose, or notes can be added. These details appear in the dataset’s project details in PIX4Dcloud.
Region of Interest
Enabling the toggle activates automatic generation of a region of interest for processing.
Cloud Processing Options
Select outputs to generate when processing in PIX4Dcloud:
- Gaussian Splatting: Generates a 3D Gaussian scene. (Requires 5 additional credits)
- Measure Volumes and Elevation Profiles: Generates a digital surface model (DSM).
- 2D Map: Generates an orthomosaic of the area.
- Generate .SLPK: Creates an Esri-compatible file.
- Point Cloud .SLPK: Creates a point cloud file.
- Mesh .SLPK: Creates a mesh file.
- Coordinate Reference System (CRS): Defines the output coordinate system. Select “Autodetected” or choose from the catalog.
Project Cost and Account Balance
Displays the project’s credit cost and available balance.
The project cost is equal to the total number of megapixeles of all images divided by 100. When Gaussian splatting is enabled, 5 credits are added to the total cost.
Note: New users who upload a captured project directly from the app get a free PIX4Dcloud Advanced trial license with 40 credits that can be used for processing. For more information about the credit system, please refer to PIX4Dcloud / PIX4Dcloud Advanced credit balance system.
Upload methods
Upload from the Project View
After capturing a project:
- Tap the blue Upload button
at the bottom of the screen. - Select desired processing options.
- After all images are uploaded and processing begins, a notification email is sent.
- A second email is sent once processing is complete.
- View and share the processed results directly in the app or via PIX4Dcloud.

Upload from the Project Dashboard
Projects can also be uploaded from the Project Dashboard, which lists all captured projects:
- Tap the folder icon
to open the project dashboard. - Tap and hold on the desired project to access the menu.
- Select Upload

- Configure processing options.
- Tap Upload
to start. - After all images are uploaded and processing begins, a notification email is sent.
- A second email is sent once processing is complete.
- The processed results can be viewed directly in the app and shared on PIX4Dcloud.
Multi-upload to PIX4Dcloud/PIX4Dcloud Advanced
There is the possibility to upload multiple projects simultaneously.
Requirements:
It is possible for GPS and RTK projects
If a project is new or upload again, the new project will inherit the processing options.
If the projects are resumed and have the following circumstances, the multi-upload will not work:
- The projects have different processing options.
- The projects have different coordinate reference systems.
- The projects have different upload locations.
- The projects have GCPs and Marks.
To upload simultaneously, follow the next steps:
- Open the Projects tab
. - Tap Select in the upper right corner.
.png?width=250&height=500&name=Plantilla%20Iphone%20(23).png)
- Choose multiple projects.
.png?width=250&height=500&name=Plantilla%20Iphone%20(24).png)
- At the bottom of the screen, tap the upload icon
..png?width=250&height=500&name=Plantilla%20Iphone%20(25).png)
- Define processing options and CRS (applied to all selected projects).
- After all images are uploaded and processing begins, a notification email is sent.
- After the processing is finished, a second email notification is sent for each individual project.
- The processed results can be viewed directly in the app and shared on PIX4Dcloud.
Re-upload to PIX4Dcloud
Projects can be uploaded multiple times with different processing options without deletion from PIX4Dcloud.
To access different processing versions, tap the Open icon
in the project’s 3D view. The following information is displayed:
- Upload name
- Processing time
- Upload status

The status of each processed version will be displayed:
Uploaded: Project successfully uploaded.
Processing: The dataset is uploading to PIX4Dcloud.
Missing credits: Processing delayed until the credit balance is sufficient.
Error: An issue occurred during processing.
Each project in the Project Folder may display one of the following status messages:
Uploading: The project has been uploaded
Paused upload: The project has been paused from uploading.
Pending upload: The upload is pending.
Uploaded: The project is uploaded to PIX4Dcloud.
Error on Upload: An error occurred during the upload process.
Error on saving: An error occurred while saving.
Note: If an error occurs while saving, the recover button
can be used to restore the project.
Process on the desktop with PIX4Dmatic
Export the project files from PIX4Dcatch. For more information, please refer to How to export PIX4Dcatch projects (iOS/Android).
Create a new project and start processing.
Processing in PIX4Dmatic: New Project in PIX4Dmatic.
After the processing is finished, the results are available for further analysis in third-party reality capture/CAD/BIM software.
Warning: A PIX4Dmapper or PIX4Dmatic license (trial, discovery, OTC, monthly, and yearly) with a valid Support & Upgrade (S&U) is required to export the project data from Pix4Dcatch.
Tips: PIX4Dmatic can process PIX4Dcatch projects with marked GCPs if the project includes at least two marked GCPs. For more information: How to use automatic Tag Detection and manual GCP marking - PIX4Dcatch RTK.
PIX4Dmatic can process PIX4Dcatch projects with LiDAR depth data using the Depth and dense fusion option, as well as having a Sky filter and Noise filter which benefits oblique imagery.
