New Project - PIX4Dinspect

This article goes step by step through the process of creating a new project in Pix4Dinspect.

A new project is a cloud-based project that belongs to an asset and allows generating Intelligent Digital twin, visualize them in 2D and 3D, inspect the reconstructed models and annotate images for collaboration.

Project creation

1. At the top left of the Dashboard, click add.pngand select New Project.

2.The window Create New Project appears.

3. Assign the new project to an asset choosing one of the following options:

  • Select an existing asset to which the new project should belong from the drop-down list or from the map.
  • Create a new asset. A detailed explanation here.

4. (Option) Project name can be given to the project. The Project name and date can be modified afterward from the dashboard and project viewer if required.

5. Add the Date to the project.

6. Click Next.

Inputs selection

Inputs can be added via drag and drop or selected from the disk.

  1. Drag and drop the input files on the screen.
  2. (Optional) More input files can be added if needed.
  3. Click Next.

Select from Disk

  1. Click Select from Disk.
  2. (Optional) More input files can be added if needed.
  3. Click Next.

After the input images are selected, the below checks are carried out during the third step. The user will be redirected to the second step if the requirements are not met.

  • For Cell tower and Transmission tower Asset types: At least 50 images and/or 1 video
  • For all other asset types: At least 5 images and/or 1 video
  • Georeferenced images
  • Images with compatible (XMP) camera orientation
Important: Input files accepted by Pix4Dinspect are described in Inputs.
Note: Input files can be individually deleted, deleted in bulk and new ones can be added anytime before clicking Upload.


Different options are available to define the intelligent digital twin and to activate the artificial intelligence algorithms for antenna detection.

  • Digital twin: select this option to generate all the following intelligent digital twin
    • 3D Model
    • Textured 3D Model (for Cell Tower assets the textured 3D Mesh is not generated)
    • Image map
    • Elevation map
  • Area of interest: defines the radius of the circle outside of which the 3D Model will be cut. The center of the circular area is the center of the cell tower, which is estimated through a density structure analysis.
    • Auto: crops the 3D model using the automatic image geolocation
    • Don't crop: recommended for a project mapping the vertical wall 
    • Custom: crops the 3D model using the custom radius. This option is only available for the Cell tower assets. 
Note: The Area of interest is available only for Cell Tower assets and if Intelligent Digital twin is checked.
Note: The Area of interest only affects the 3D Model. It does not affect any other Intelligent Digital twin.
  • Artificial Intelligence plugins:
    • Tower inventory:  This option is only available for the Cell tower assets. More information in: Inventory tool
      • Automatically extract the inventory list of panel antennas and microwave antennas
      • Automatically extract the inventory information of angles, dimensions, and positions
    • Custom AI plugin: The user can apply the custom AI algorithms to your data and improve your intelligent digital twin.  Contact us for more information. 
Note: Tower inventory is available only if Intelligent Digital twin is checked.
Important: The Tower inventory recognition algorithm can only run if the Data privacy preferences allow Pix4D algorithms to learn and improve from the project details.

The user can navigate between the different steps by clicking Previous and Next

To start generating the outputs, click Upload.
