Your camera is not supported at this time - PIX4Dfields

This article explains what to do when a camera or resolution is not supported in PIX4Dfields.

In PIX4Dfields 2.9 and newer, the message “Your camera is not supported at this time” may appear for cameras that lack the necessary metadata tags required for processing.

For previous versions, PIX4Dfields will display the message "Your camera is not supported at this time" when a camera is not in the database. It happens with recently released cameras, less popular cameras, or images with a resolution that is not supported. In this case, a custom camera parameters file (.xml) will be required to process the unsupported imagery. This .xml file acts as an amendment to the camera database and will allow PIX4Dfields to begin processing.

This is an example of what PIX4Dfields displays when a camera is not supported:

"We are sorry. Your camera is not supported at this time."

What to do if your camera is not supported

A user might see a warning or error message because the camera model being used is not yet in our database. This often happens with recently released or less common cameras.

The behavior depends on the version of PIX4Dfields:

  • PIX4Dfields 2.9 and newer: The software is often able to process images from unsupported cameras as long as they contain the required technical data (e.g., focal length, image resolution). However, an error can occur if this metadata is missing.

  • PIX4Dfields 2.8 and older: The software is more restrictive and requires a camera to be explicitly listed in its database. If a camera is not in the database, an error message will appear, "We are sorry. Your camera is not supported at this time," and the images cannot be processed without a custom file.

The best first step is to ensure the most current version of PIX4Dfields is being used, as new versions include new camera models.

To use the file, perform the following steps:

  1. On the dashboard, go to settings.jpg SETTINGS on the top-right and click Camera parameters file.Notsupported
  2. Click Select file and select the .xml file in the file dialog.
  3. Exit the settings and create a project to process the dataset. The camera parameters file is used automatically.

The file can be unlinked by clicking Remove on the Camera parameters file page of the settings. The parameters will then no longer be used. If a camera parameter file is provided for a specific camera, its values override any corresponding values in the image Exif data or the internal database.

Important: It is recommended that imagery be acquired at a resolution that matches the one supported by PIX4Dfields. Changing the image aspect ratio will change the image resolution, which may prevent PIX4Dfields from supporting the imagery and require a custom camera parameter file.

Same error after importing the XML

If the downloaded file does not enable processing or if the resulting orthomosaic is of poor quality, and a valid Support and Upgrades license is available, contact Pix4D support with the complete dataset. An updated .xml file can then be provided to ensure compatibility with the imagery.

Error in camera parameters file

If PIX4Dfields displays a message that the XML contains errors, please:

  1. Ensure the provided XML has the correct format:Correct_XML_
  2. Ensure there are no empty tags:Wrong_XML_
  3. Ensure there are no incomplete tags like <rigs/> at the beginning or <mappings/> at the end.

The XML file is not imported

If, after selecting the file, it is not importing correctly to PIX4Dfields, please update to PIX4Dfields 2.9.6 https://account.pix4d.com/download-software
