Measure tool- PIX4Dcatch

This support guide explains how to use the Measure tool in the PIX4Dcatch mobile app to capture site measurements in real time, either with an RTK device or with the device's GPS.

PIX4Dcatch allows measurements to be taken directly in the app using the device's built-in GPS or a connected RTK device for high-accuracy positioning.

Measure with an RTK device

For higher-accuracy positioning and accurate measurement, connect a supported RTK device to the PIX4Dcatch app.

  1. Open PIX4Dcatch.
  2. Connect the supported RTK device to PIX4Dcatch. For more information, visit Connecting PIX4Dcatch to a compatible RTK (GNSS) device.
  3. Go to the Capture view and tap on Button Tools icon located at the lower left of the screen.
  4. Tap on Measure.

  7. Tap on the Button (2) OK icon to complete the measurement. (Option) Add additional points to create a multi-segment measurement if required.
  8. Once the measurement is complete, tap the line to view details such as Name, Description, 2D length, 3D length, Elevation Difference, and slope.

Measure using the mobile device's GPS

When no RTK device is connected, PIX4Dcatch uses the mobile device's built-in GPS for positioning.

  1. Open PIX4Dcatch.
  2. Go to the Capture view and tap on Button Tools icon located at the lower left of the screen.
  3. Tap on  Measure.

How to customize the measurements display setting

You can customize the measurement settings to adjust the appearance, size, and behavior of measurement elements. These settings allow you to fine-tune pointer, line, and surface detection to suit your measurement workflow.

To customize the measurement settings, go to Account → Capture Settings → Advanced Settings  → and scroll down to Measurements.

The available settings are:

  • Line diameter – Adjusts the diameter of the measurement line.
  • Pointer diameter – Adjusts the overall size of the measurement pointer.
  • Pointer center diameter – Adjusts the diameter of the pointer’s center.
  • Pointer line thickness – Adjusts the thickness of the lines that make up the pointer.
  • Point diameter – Adjusts the size of the measurement point.
  • Measure roughness – Controls how surface roughness is considered during measurements.
  • Measure metallic – Controls how metallic surfaces are handled during measurements.
  • Measure emissive – Controls how emissive or self-lit surfaces are handled during measurements.
  • Plane detection – Controls plane detection during measurements.
  • Point density – Controls the density of points used for measurements.
