Applications with 3D PDF

Measure distances on the 3D PDF mesh

The 3D PDF of the 3D textured mesh can be used to make measurements.

Important:
  • To make measurements, the project needs to be georeferenced (image geolocation or GCPs) or scaled (How to scale a project).
  • To make accurate measurements, it is recommended to measure distances in the point cloud in the rayCloud. For more information about how to make measurements in the rayCloud: How to draw a Polyline in the rayCloud.
Warning: Measurements should not be done in the 3D Textured Mesh. Measurements done in the point cloud are more accurate.
Note: For more information about how to generate the 3D Textured Mesh: How to generate the 3D Textured Mesh.

To measure distances of the 3D Textured Mesh in the 3D PDF:

1. Open the 3D PDF with Adobe Reader.

Note: To download Adobe Reader click here.

2. Right click on the 3D Textured Mesh, go to Tools and click 3D Measurement Tools.

3. On the Menu bar, click Comment.
4. In the section Drawing, click the tool to draw a rectangle.
5. Draw a rectangle around the part to be removed.
6. On the Menu bar, click Comment Format of the Drawing Tool.
7. Adjust the style, e.g. no border and white color.
8. On the Menu bar, click Comment.
9. In the section Typewriter, click the button Typewriter.
