Orthomosaic editor - PIX4Dmatic
This article provides step-by-step instructions on how to edit an orthomosaic using the orthomosaic editor in PIX4Dmatic.
To edit an orthomosaic:
1. On the toolbar, click Orthomosaic editor
2. Draw the patch where the orthomosaic has to be edited. Then, click on the right-click button to finish the patch creation. It is possible to draw as many patches as needed to edit the orthomosaic.
3. In the image viewer, patches will be displayed on all images that can be used to correct the orthomosaic.
4. After patch creation, the projection type has to be selected:
- Planar: The planar projection does not preserve distances, but has fewer distortions than the Ortho projection on sharp transitions such as building edges. Therefore, it is not recommended to use planar images for mosaics dedicated to measurement applications. Its basic use is to improve the visual aspect of the Orthomosaic.
- Orthographic: The Ortho projection preserves distances and can be used for mosaics dedicated to measurement applications.
5. Select an image in Planar or select one or multiple images in Orthographic projection. If multiple images are selected, they will be blended.

Note: the processing will start automatically each time an image is selected.
For each patch, in the Properties panel, the images used to edit the orthomosaic are listed.
6. Once all required patches have been created, the final step is to click on the Apply patches button on the toolbar. All the changes will be applied to the orthomosaic.
Note: The content panel will display all patches as outdated until Apply Patches has been applied.
