Importing and Exporting OPF - PIX4Dmatic
The Open Photogrammetry Format (OPF) is an open standard from Pix4D that allows complete photogrammetry projects to be exported from and imported into PIX4Dmatic, ensuring all inputs and results are preserved in a single, organized structure.
The Open Photogrammetry Format (OPF) is a standardized, open file format developed by Pix4D to facilitate the transfer of photogrammetry data between tools and software platforms. It is designed to support data sharing, archiving, and processing with increased flexibility and consistency.
When a project is exported in OPF format, a folder containing all the essential components of the photogrammetry project is created. This includes input parameters such as camera settings, tie points, and coordinate systems, as well as output data like calibration results and dense point clouds.
The folder also includes a project.opf file, which serves as an index file referencing all other files in the project.
Advantages of using OPF for importing and exporting a project
Archiving or transferring PIX4Dmatic projects:
The Open Photogrammetry Format (OPF) provides a reliable way to archive and transfer projects by consolidating all essential data into a single, organized structure. By storing images, tie points, vector data, and project settings together, OPF preserves the complete project record, reducing the risk of missing files or inconsistencies when revisiting work in the future. This structure not only safeguards long-term archives but also ensures that projects can be easily restored or continued on another computer with a consistent environment.
Processing a PIX4Dcatch project in PIX4Dmatic:
Using OPF significantly improves the workflow between PIX4Dcatch and PIX4Dmatic by reducing the number of manual steps required to transfer data. With this streamlined process, users can access and visualize project information more quickly and efficiently, enhancing productivity and minimizing the risk of error. How to export a project.opf file from PIX4Dmatic
To export a project in OPF, go to File > Export > Project as OPF…
Select all files to be included in the project.opf file.
An “opf” subfolder is created within the export directory after export.
The project.opf
file serves as an index referencing all other files in the project. This file can be opened in PIX4Dmatic or potentially used in other supported software.
Important: Outdated outputs cannot be exported.
How to import a project.opf file into PIX4Dmatic
To import an OPF file, use one of the three following methods:
Option 1 - File > Open:
- Launch PIX4Dmatic.
- Go to File > Open.
- Select the project.opf
file from the project folder.
Option 2. - Double-click:
- Double-click the project.opf
file.
- This will launch PIX4Dmatic and open the project.
Option 3. - Drag and drop:
- Drag the project.opf
from the OPF folder.
- Drop it
onto the PIX4Dmatic homescreen.
