How to import a PIX4Dmapper project into PIX4Dmatic
PIX4Dmapper projects can be seamlessly imported into PIX4Dmatic by simply dragging and dropping the project file or by using the home screen. For all files to be recognized correctly, the original folder structure must be preserved. For more information, see Project Folder Structure.
Important: What is not currently supported:
-
Projects that combine an arbitrary vertical and a well-known horizontal CRS for the output coordinate system
-
Projects with a specified non-zero geoid height over the ellipsoid
- Rig and multi-spectral cameras
How to import a PIX4Dmapper project into PIX4Dmatic
It is possible to import existing PIX4Dmapper (.p4d) projects by dragging and dropping them on the screen, using the home screen, or the menu bar. Projects can also be opened using Ctrl + O (Windows) or ⌘ + O (Mac).
Drag and drop input files
- Drag and drop the input file on the PIX4Dmatic home screen.
- Specify the Project name and the Path of the new PIX4Dmatic project.
- Click Start.
From the home screen
- Click Select from disk (first thumbnail) on the home screen.
- On the pop-up Open File, specify the input file and click Open.
- Specify the Project name and the Path of the new PIX4Dmatic project.
- Click Start.
A new project is created and is ready for vectorization. To import additional input files, use the File - Import... menu or drag and drop them on the screen.
If the image folder is not recognized:
If the location of the images is not automatically recognized, a pop-up message appears while importing the PIX4Dmapper project file:
- Click
Find - In the Find your files folder, navigate to the folder with images.
- Click Select Folder.
- Click Ok.
Only the results from Step 1 and the dense point cloud from Step 2 in PIX4Dmapper are imported. A new project is created and is ready for vectorization. To import additional input files, use the File - Import... menu or drag and drop them on the screen.
Once the import is complete, the point cloud and images will be displayed, and a PIX4Dmatic project file (.p4m) will be created. Save the project. This way, the dependencies with the PIX4Dmapper project and the paths to the project folders with inputs will be automatically established.
Troubleshooting
PIX4Dmapper project is not correctly imported
If a PIX4Dmapper project is not displayed correctly after the import into PIX4Dmatic, some project files could be missing or are not stored in the correct location. For more information see Project Folder Structure.
We recommend checking that the following files are available and stored correctly:
- PIX4Dmapper project file (.p4d).
- Original images.
- Calibrated camera parameters
(...\project_name\1_initial\params\project_name_calibrated_camera_parameters.txt). - Offset file (...\project_name\1_initial\params\project_name_offset.xyz).
- Point cloud in .las, .laz (...\project_name\2_densification\point_cloud\).
- Step 1 - Export Camera Internals and Externals, AAT, BBA. For more information see Menu Process > Processing Options... > 1. Initial Processing > Calibration.
- Step 2 - Export LAS (default) or LAZ. For more information see Menu Process > Processing Options... > 2. Point Cloud and Mesh > Point Cloud article.
Once all the files are in their expected location, reimport the project.
