Troubleshooting

Windows 11 & PIX4Dsurvey

This article describes the potential reasons that PIX4Dsurvey may become unstable while running Windows 11. The suggestions recommended may help prevent the application from crashing.

Issue

Windows 11 for Pix4d software is supported, but it may crash under the following circumstances:

  1. When creating a new project
  2. Importing GCPs into the project.

On an earlier version than (excluding) 22H2 of Windows 11, PIX4Dsurvey 1.43 version or newer will display this warning:

On 22H2 or newer versions of Windows 11, PIX4Dsurvey will function normally.

Note: The issue seems related to File Explorer and Pix4D's software (PIX4Dmapper, PIX4Dmatic, PIX4Dsurvey, PIX4Dfields). There is an investigation underway for this issue to be fixed.

Solutions

There are 2 possible solutions for this specific issue:

Disable the Microsoft OneDrive “Desktop” Folder automatic synchronization

The issue disappears when syncing with the Desktop folder is disabled.

Solution

  1. Go to the settings of OneDrive
  2. Open the Backup tab
  3. Click Manage backup
  4. On the OneDrive window, click Stop Backup for Desktop Folder (syncing the “Documents” and “Pictures” folders has no impact).

Note: After clicking Stop Backup, the files you currently have on your desktop will disappear. A shortcut called Where are my files will appear on your desktop, guiding you to the current location of your desktop files.

Reverting back to Windows 10

If none of the 2 solutions above work, it is possible to revert back to Windows 10, if necessary.

Solution

  1. Downgrade from Windows 11 to Windows 10.
  2. Windows 11: How to go back to Windows 10 video tutorial.
