Create a new dataset to start processing imagery and create maps and digital twins of the reality or upload outputs to PIX4Dcloud.
To create a new dataset:
- At the top left of the Drive, click New and select New dataset. The New dataset wizard opens.
The following steps compose the New dataset creation workflow:
1. Dataset creation
In the Dataset creation section,
- (For Pix4Dcloud users) Enter the dataset's name.
(For Pix4Dcloud Advanced users) Assign the dataset to an existing site or create a new one. - Choose one of the following options:
a) Upload images for processing
b) Upload processed results
a) Upload images for processing
The images uploaded as a new dataset will be processed to generate the photogrammetric outputs defined in step 3. Processing template.
- Click Next to continue.
- Follow the instructions for step 2. Image selection.
- If the user account is under the image and datasets allowance system, the system displays the remaining number of images available for processing from the quota.
- If the user account is under the credit balance system, the system displays the number of credits available from processing.
b) Upload processed results
- Once Upload processed results is selected, click Create to create the dataset.
- Upload the single outputs. For more information: How to upload results and outputs to Pix4Dcloud.
The following steps are not available for uploaded outputs.
2. Image selection
- Drag and drop the images or search for the folder where they are stored. For more information: Inputs.
- (Optional) To add more images, drag and drop additional images or click Select images and browse to the folder where the additional images are stored.
- (Optional) Delete some images if necessary.
- Select Next and follow the instructions for step 3. Processing template.
If the user is under the credit balance system, the lower bar informs about the number of credits that the project will cost (cost estimated based on the size of the first image):
- If there are enough credits balance available for processing:
- If there are not enough credits balance available for processing:
- If there is not enough credits balance, but the auto top-up is enabled.
3. Processing options
Output coordinate system
Select the horizontal coordinate system for the project outputs.
- Drag and drop a PRJ file defining the coordinate system, or
- Search for the name of the coordinate system based on: EPSG code (use numbers only).

Templates
This step allows the user to select a processing template for the project. Different processing templates are available:
- 3D maps: Generates the Point Cloud, 3D Textured Mesh, Orthomosaic, and DSM. Ideal for aerial images acquired using a grid flight plan with high overlap, mostly oriented towards the ground. Typical applications are quarries, cadasters, etc.
The quality needed for the outputs can be specified between: - Quality: Good output quality with high accuracy. Processing times longer than the Rapid option are expected.
- Rapid: Lower output quality. Faster for assessing the quality of the acquired dataset.
- 2D orthomosaic: Generates the Orthomosaic. Ideal for aerial images acquired using a grid flight plan with high overlap on flat terrain, for example, agricultural fields.
The quality needed for the outputs can be specified between: - Quality: Good output quality with high accuracy. Processing times longer than the Rapid option are expected.
- Rapid: Lower output quality. Faster for assessing the quality of the acquired dataset.
- 3D models: Generates 3D Textured Mesh, and Point Cloud. Ideal for any images with a high amount of overlap such as images taken from the ground or oblique aerial images (free flight). Application examples are 3D models of buildings, objects, ground imagery, indoor imagery, inspection, etc.
The quality needed for the outputs can be specified between:- Quality: Good output quality with high accuracy. Processing times longer than the Rapid option are expected.
- Building reconstruction: Improve the quality of the outputs for building projects with homogeneous facades.
- Rapid: Lower output quality. Faster for assessing the quality of the acquired dataset.
- Quality: Good output quality with high accuracy. Processing times longer than the Rapid option are expected.
- AG multispectral: Generates the NDVI map for precision agriculture. Ideal for aerial images from multispectral cameras with band-dedicated sensors, acquired at high overlap using a grid flight plan.
Once the processing template has been selected:
- (For PIX4Dcloud users) Select Create to finalize the dataset creation. The upload of the inputs starts.
(For PIX4Dcloud Advanced users) Select Next and follow the instructions for step 4. GCPs automation.
4. GCPs automation
If GCPs/Checkpoints are needed
The full instructions list can be found at: AutoGCPs detection functionality.
If GCPs/Checkpoints are not needed
- Click Skip and process.
The project starts processing to finalize the dataset creation. The upload of the inputs to the server is started.
I created a new site and I want to merge the two data sites together for the model. How may I do this?
Mike, if I understand correctly, you have 2 datasets (acquisitions) belonging to the same site and you would like to visualize a merged point cloud/mesh from these projects. The only way to have merged outputs is by processing the 2 sets of images together, this can only be done in a new project. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question.
Hola. Esto me dice soporte: The reason that the ortho is failing to display is that the tiling process required for display on the web is timing out due to the size of the ortho. The cloud is best suited for small to medium-sized projects. Large projects may work but can encounter issues like this. I would suggest reprocessing the ortho at a lower GSD (3x-5x GSD). This should significantly decrease the file size and will not result in too much difference visually in the ortho. Pero ya no tengo espacio para reprocesar otro proyecto. Este proyecto consumió 2100 fotos y apenas en el contador me quedan unas 550 fotos para procesar. Necesito solución urgente a esto.
Hola Carlos,
You can download the orthomosaic from Pix4Dcloud (How to download the results from Pix4Dcloud) and reduce its resolution in QGIS:
You can sub-sample the orthomosaic following these steps:
1. Download the orthomosaic from Pix4Dcloud (Files > Results > Orthomosaic).
2. Drag and drop the orthomosaic into a new QGIS project.
3. Right-click on the orthomosaic layer in the Layers panel. Then click Export > Save As..
4. Select the option Rendered image, choose a destination folder and define a lower horizontal and vertical resolution, which by default is the current layer resolution.
5. Check Create Options. Select Low compression.
You can also select the option "Add saved file to map" to check the visual difference in QGIS itself. Then click OK.
Once the down-sampled file is generated, replace the file on Pix4Dcloud with the smaller one. In your project go to Files > Results > Orthomosaic > Replace file.
Hello. With which program should I do this? Because I downloaded PixMapper and it doesn't allow me to do that process as you describe it here. Now I have 2 orthomosaics that I cannot see.
I need help, urgently.
When I create a new project in PixMapper it asks me to upload 3 images. As I only need to correct a single TIFF file it doesn't let me. What should I do?
Hi Carlos,
The process I described should be performed in QGIS, after having downloaded the orthomosaic from Pix4Dcloud (How to download the results from Pix4Dcloud).
You can download QGIS (QGIS Standalone installer version) at https://www.qgis.org/en/site/forusers/download.html.
Hello. I already downloaded the Tiff. I already downloaded the application that you told me. I followed the instructions and now I get this message.
Hi this is probably a question for QGIS support. Ensure you have enough free space on the disk where you are saving and that you have edit rights in the same disk/folder. Also try to unselect the option "Add saved file to map" when downsampling the orthomosaic.
