Getting Started

Download the latest version of Pix4Dcatch for iOS.


Step 1. Plan the image acquisition

1. Launch Pix4Dcatch.


2. Tap setting mceclip1.png to customize your capture trigger. Select either the Device Pose or Image Movement tab and adjust the settings.

Note: Only the selected triggering option is used for image acquisition. For example, when selecting the Device Pose option, the settings of Image Movement option are not used.


   2.1 Device PoseTriggers the image based on the device movement.

  • Distance: Triggers when the device moves more than the selected distance. The default value is 10 cm and the distance can be set between 1 cm to 100cm.
  • AngleTriggers when the device has rotated more than selected degrees. The default value is 20° and it varies between 1° and 45°.

   2.2 Image Overlap: Triggers the image based on the image overlap.

  • Overlap: Defines the image overlap to trigger the camera. The default overlap is 95% and the overlap percentage ranges between 75% and 99%.

3. Tap Done to save the settings.

After setting up the image triggering settings, you are ready to start the image acquisition.  

Step 2. Start the image acquisition

1. Tap on the record icon DARK.png , and slowly move the device to start capturing. The app will automatically start capturing images based on the selected settings.


2. After the capturing is completed, tap on the record icon DARK.jpg to stop recording.

3. Tap save.png to save the captured images.

After finishing the mission, a project is created and images are stored on the device.

Tip: For better image acquisition:
  • Slightly tilt the device downwards during the acquisition to avoid collecting too much unnecessary background information.
  • Avoid reflective surfaces especially if exposed to a direct light source. Reflective surfaces are difficult to reconstruct when they are exposed to direct light.
  • Do not use it as 360 camera capturing from a single point instead walk along or around the area of interest.
  • Do not only rotate 360 degrees around the object during circular image acquisition but a bit more 380 degrees(approx), with the last images overlapping with the first ones. 
  • Move slowly to have uniform image triggering during image acquisition.
  • Not optimized for Indoor mapping.
  • Don’t be too close to the object.

Step 3. Process the images

Upload images directly to Pix4Dcloud for processing.

Important: A Pix4Dcloud (Pix4Dcloud and Pix4Dcloud Advanced) license is required to upload the project for cloud processing. 

1. In the Home screen, tap folder icon Group_30.png, and select the project. Switch to the different tabs (Captured, Processed, Processing, All) to view the projects. By default, the All tab is open which displays all the projects. When looking for the project in a different tab, the search box is a useful tool to narrow the search.

2. Tap  Upload.png. Then, the image upload starts. 


3. An email is sent when all images are uploaded and processing begins.
4. A second email is sent when processing is finished.
5. After the processing is finished, the results can be viewed and shared on Pix4Dcloud. 

 Process locally with Pix4Dmapper 

Important: A Pix4Dmapper (OTC, monthly, and yearly) license is required to export the project from the app. 

1. Copy the images from the device to the computer. For more information see How to export Pix4Dcatch projects.
2. Create a new project and start processing using the Pix4Dmapper. For more information see New project in Pix4Dmapper.
3. After the processing is finished, the results are available for further analysis in Pix4Dmapper.
