How to include GCPs into a Pix4Dcatch project


GCPs can be included into a Pix4Dcatch project to reach cm-grade absolute accuracy. Pix4Dcatch with the RTK Rover can also be used to reach the same accuracy level without the need of placing GCPs.

There are different ways to add GCPs to a project acquired with Pix4Dcatch.

One option involves using Pix4Dmapper:

  1. Export the images from Pix4Dcatch (iOS / Android).
  2. Create a New project in Pix4Dmapper importing the images taken with Pix4Dcatch.
  3. Import and mark the GCPs: How to import and mark ground control points (GCPs).
  4. Process locally in Pix4Dmapper and eventually upload the results to Pix4Dcloud, if needed. Alternatively, upload the project files for processing on Pix4Dcloud.

Another option involves processing with Pix4Dcloud. This method can only be used if some requirements are met, among which having black and white squared or diagonal targets and nadir images. Please, consult the full requirements list here.

  1. Export the images from Pix4Dcatch (iOS / Android).
  2. Create a New dataset on Pix4Dcloud importing the images taken with Pix4Dcatch.
  3. Follow the guided procedure to include the GCPs. More information at AutoGCPs detection functionality.
Note: The LiDAR information can only be used in the processing if the project is uploaded from the Pix4Dcatch application directly to Pix4Dcloud. Therefore, both the above methods will only use the LiDAR information indirectly. For more information: Pix4Dcatch - FAQ.
