Error
"pix4dmapper.exe has stopped working" while installing the software.
Description
When installing the software you may receive the following message:
"pix4dmapper.exe has stopped working" while installing the software.
Cause
This error may come from different reasons:
- An out-of-date version of Windows Installer.
- Not full access to the folder: C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\ or C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Local\Temp\.
- Visual C++ runtime is missing.
- .Net runtime is missing.
- Windows 7 O.S. not updated.
- A registry settings cause.
Solution
To troubleshoot the issue follow the items below in order, after each item, restart the computer and try the installation again, if still fails, proceed to the next item listed:
1. Confirm that the computer where PIX4Dmapper is installed has the minimum requirement: System requirements: Minimum and recommended computer specifications.
2. Update Windows Installer following the instructions from this Microsoft article: http://www.microsoft.com.
3. If using Windows 7, Update the O.S to Windows.
4. Change the permissions to have full access to:
C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\ or C:\Users\Your Username\AppData\Local\Temp\
4.1 Open Windows Explorer that is located in the folder mentioned above.
4.2 Right-click on the folder and click Properties. The Windows Properties pop up will appear.
4.3 Select the tab Security.
4.4 Click Edit and the Permissions for Windows pop up window will appear.
4.5 Under the section Group or user names, select the desired user.
4.6 Ensure that the Allow check box for Full control is activated, else activate it.
4.7 On the Permissions for Windows pop up, click OK (if no changes were made) or Apply (if changes were made).
4.8 On the Windows Properties pop up, click OK (if no changes were made) or Apply (if changes were made).
5. Update Visual C++ runtime (Vcredist.exe) following the instructions from this Microsoft article:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/259403.
6. Update 4.0.3 for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 – Runtime Update (KB2600211) following the instructions from this Microsoft article: http://www.microsoft.com.
7. Uninstall the software, if a very old version of the software is installed: How to completely uninstall PIX4Dmapper.
