(Android) Pix4Dcapture Manual

 

Welcome screen
 
_ Access: The Welcome screen is displayed the first time the app is opened or when no Pix4D account is logged in.

The Welcome screen has two buttons:

  • Log in: To enter the Email and Password of the Pix4D account.
  • Sign up for free: To create a Pix4D account before using the app. For more information: 204000599.

Home screen
 
_ Access: The Home screen is displayed when the app is started and the user is logged in.

The Home screen contains the following items:

  • Four types of mission to plan and fly: Grid, Double Grid, Circular, Free Flight. For more information: 209960726.
  • Project List: Opens the list of projects and missions (planned/completed flights) with transfer options for post-flight processing. For more information: 208820126.
  • Tutorial/Help: Gives direct access to animations and the online documentation.
  • Settings: Opens the list of general settings. For more information: 115001833743.
  • Logout: Returns to the Welcome screen.

Flight settings
 
_ Access: In the Home screen, select a type of mission.

The following parameters can be tweaked for autonomous missions:

  • Position: Tap the cross arrow to move the flight plan to the desired location.
  • Orientation: Tap the curved arrows to rotate the flight plan.
  • Size: Drag bullets to adjust the size and shape.
  • Altitude: Scroll the scale to select the altitude above ground level, the reference is where the drone is turned on and gets the satellite signal.

Some parameters are specific to the Free Flight mission:

  • Image intervals: Scroll the horizontal and vertical scales to define the distance intervals that will automatically trigger pictures. For more information: 203081219.

Additional options are available by tapping ic_settings.png:

_ Tip:
If the flight plan turns orange, tap bu_yellow_warning.png to get more information. To unlock certain safety restrictions, activate the advanced mode in the general settings. For more information: 115001833743.



Map view
_ Access: In the home screen click Grid Mission or Free Flight Mission. The Map View can also be accessed from the App toolbar by clicking the Map View icon when it is visible.

The Map View is the main view for a mission. Before a grid mission it is used to set the position of the grid and to take off. During a mission, it shows the position of the home point , the position of the drone , the positions where the pictures have been taken  as well as as the status of the mission.

The Map View contains:

 

Items

The Map View displays the following items:

 Displays the device's GPS position.

Shows the home point, i.e. the point at which the drone takes off. When doing a grid mission the drone lands automatically at the home point when the mission is finished.

Shows the position and orientation of the drone. The green arms are in the back of the drone and the red arms in the front. The green line shows the path the drone has flown.

Shows the locations where the pictures were recorded.

 Displays the grid size and estimated flight time for the Grid Mission.

 Shows the last waypoint of the mission. When the drone reaches this point, it comes back to the home point and lands for the Grid Mission.

 

Buttons

The Map View contains the following buttons:

Centers the map on the device's GPS position.

Displays a map background.

Displays a satellite background.

For a Grid Mission the following buttons are displayed:

 Moves the grid to the center of the screen.

 Starts the grid mission. It will guide the user through security checks before the drone takes off.

 During a mission, aborts the Grid Mission and the drone comes back to the home point for landing. The images that have already been taken are synchronized with the device.

For a Free Flight Mission the following buttons are displayed:

 Starts a free flight mission. It will guide the user through security checks before the drone can take off.

 During the mission, pauses the image acquisition.

 During a mission, resumes the image acquisition.

 During a mission, stops the image acquisition. The .p4d project file is created and the images are synchronized with the device.

 

Camera view
_ Access: In the App toolbar, click the camera view icon .

When the camera view is displayed the camera view icon is shown in the toolbar and underlined.

The camera view shows what the camera is currently viewing. It allows to orient the camera if needed by using the 2 following buttons:

Move the camera up.
Move the camera down.

_ Note:

  • If the displayed camera view is bad or if there is no camera view, this does not mean that the mission is failing. It is very likely due to a bad video stream transmission from the drone to the App.
  • Each time a picture is taken, the screen becomes black.

 

Status
_ Access: In the map view or camera view, click the battery status icon .

The status displays the telemetry of the drone. It is available each time the device is connected to the drone.

The following status are displayed:

Status of the drone's battery.
Status of the Wi-Fi range extender's battery (for the Phantom 2 Vision+) or the remote control battery (for the Phantom 3 Advanced/Professional and Inspire 1).
Number of GPS satellites available. At least 6 satellites are required to take off.
Status of the SD card. The status can be:

    • Ready
    • No SD card
    • SD card full
    • SD card unformatted
    • Has error
    • Unknown SD card error
    • N/A: status of the SD card is unknown.

Speed: Ground speed of the drone in [m/s].
Altitude: Altitude above the ground of the drone in [m]. 0 altitude corresponds to the altitude at which the drone was started.
... m away: Ground distance between the home point and the drone in [m].

The tutorial/help screen contains the following items:

  • Getting Started: Opens the getting started guide.
  • Manual: Opens the online manual.
  • App Overview: Plays the App overview animation.
  • Grid Mission: Plays the tutorial that explains how to do a grid mission.
  • Free Flight Mission: Plays the tutorial that explains how to do a free flight mission.
