How to use the 3D Textured Mesh in Sketchfab

Users of Pix4Dmapper can upload to Sketchfab their 3D Textured Mesh with just one click for viewing, interacting and sharing in an easy and secure way.

Pix4Dmapper generates the 3D Textured Mesh in the following formats: Menu Process > Processing Options... > 2. Point Cloud and Mesh > 3D Textured Mesh.

Sketchfab allows to upload:

  • Models with texture: The 3D Mesh .fbx file that Pix4Dmapper generates, it contains the texture file that will be uploaded to Sketchfab.
  • Models without texture: The 3D Mesh .obj file that Pix4Dmapper generates, it can be uploaded, but the corresponding .jpeg texture will not be loaded.
Note: The preferred format for uploads is the .fbx file. This is not the default file type for the 3D Textured Mesh output. For more information about where the outputs are stored: Pix4D outputs with other software > by output.
To generate the .fbx file:

If step 2 has not been processed yet:
1. On the Menu Bar, click Process > Processing Options...
2. Select step 2. Point Cloud and Mesh .
3. Select the tab 3D Textured Mesh , select the box Generate 3D Textured Mesh.
4. In the section Export, select the box FBX and click OK.
5. Run step 2. Point Cloud and Mesh.

If step 2 has already been processed:
1. On the Menu Bar, click Process > Processing Options...
2. Select step 2. Point Cloud and Mesh .
3. Select the tab 3D Textured Mesh , select the box Generate 3D Textured Mesh.
4. In the section Export, select the box FBX and click OK.
5. On the Menu Bar, click Process > Generate 3D Textured Mesh.
Note: The ideal resolution for the texture for Sketchfab is 4096x4096 pixels. By default, Pix4Dmapper generates a texture resolution of 8192x8192.
To reduce the resolution to 4096x4096 pixels:

1. On the Menu bar, click Process > Processing Options...
2. Select step 2. Point Cloud and Mesh .
3. Select the tab 3D Textured Mesh , select the box Generate 3D Textured Mesh. In the Settings section, click the Texture Size [pixels] from the drop-down list and select 4096x4096.
4. Click OK.
