How to work with Indices - Formulas in the Index Calculator

Important: Available once step 1. Initial Processing has been completed.

With the Index Calculator it is possible to perform the following actions:

 

Edit an Index - Formula from Pix4Dmapper Index Database

 
Warning: The formulas of the indices created, modified, or removed will be saved in the current .p4d project file but do not impact other projectsIndices from Pix4Dmapper Index Database cannot be edited (the name and the formula expression cannot be modified). They can be duplicated and then edited as a newly created index which is categorized as user defined.

1. On the Menu bar, click View > Index Calculator. 


2. On the Index Calculator sidebar, in section 3. Index Map, click Indices...


3. Select the Index to edit and click Duplicate. A new index with the name "IndexName_copy" is created.

 
Note: Beside the index name an icon appears describing the source of the index:
  • database.png: Index from Pix4Dmapper index database. For more information about Pix4Dmapper Index Database List: Pix4Dmapper Index Database List.
  • user.png: User-defined index.
  • pencil.png: Index with some user-edited values.
  • document.png: Index from the .p4d file.

4. (optional) Change the index name:

4.1. Select the Index by clicking the Index name.
4.2. Double click the Index name.
4.3. Edit the name.

5. (optional) Change the formula expression. There are 2 ways of changing the formula expression:

1. By double clicking on the formula:

1.1. Select the Index by clicking the Index name.
1.2. Double click the formula.
1.3. Edit the expression.

2. By clicking on Edit:

2.1. Select the Index by clicking the Index name.
2.2. Click Edit.
2.3. Use the Formula Editor to change the formula. For information about the Formula Editor and how to use it: Menu View > Index Calculator > Sidebar > 3. Index Map > Index Map (Formula Editor).
2.4. Once the formula is completed, click OK.

 6. On the Index List pop-up click:

    • OK: To close the Index List and display the last selected index from the Index List in section 3. Index Map.
    • Cancel: To close the Index List and display the index selected before opening the Index List in section 3. Index Map.

Edit a user defined Index - Formula

 
Warning: The formulas of the indices created, modified, or removed will be saved in the current .p4d project file but do not impact other projects.

1. On the Menu bar, click View > Index Calculator. 

2. On the Index Calculator Sidebar, in section 3. Index Map, click Indices...


3. (optional) Change the index name:

3.1. Select the Index by clicking the Index name.
3.2. Double click the index name.
3.3. Edit the name.

 
Warning: If changes are made for the name of an already-generated user defined Index, all the generated output files will be renamed with the new index name.

4. (optional) Change the formula. There are 2 ways of changing the formula expression:

1. By double clicking on the formula:

1.1. Select the Index by clicking the index name.
1.2. Double click the formula.
1.3. Edit the formula.

2. By clicking on Edit:

2.1. Select the Index by clicking the index name.
2.2. Click Edit.
2.3. Use the Formula Editor to change the formula. For information about the Formula Editor and how to use it: Menu View > Index Calculator > Sidebar > 3. Index Map > Index Map (Formula Editor).
2.4. Once the formula is complete, click OK.


 

 
Warning: If changes are made for the formula expression of an already-generated user defined Index, all the generated output files (Index Map and Colored Index Map) will be DELETED.

 5. On the Index List window click:

    • OK: To close the Index List and display the last selected Index from the Index List in section 3.Index Map.
    • Cancel: To close the Index List and display the index selected before opening the Index List in section 3. Index Map.

Create a new Index - Formula 

 
Warning: The formulas of the indices created, modified, or removed will be saved in the current .p4d project file but do not impact other projects.

1. On the Menu bar, click View > Index Calculator. 


2. On the Index Calculator Sidebar, in section 3. Index Map, click Indices...


3. Click Add. The Formula Editor pop-up appears.

    • If the Reflectance Map is generated:

    • If the Reflectance Map is not generated:

4. Use the Formula Editor to edit the formula. If the Reflectance Map is generated, use the bands of the Reflectance Map Band Selection. If the Reflectance Map is not generated, compose the index by typing the formula. For information about the Formula Editor and how to use it: Menu View > Index Calculator > Sidebar > 3. Index Map > Index Map (Formula Editor).
5. Once the formula expression is completed, click OK.

6. By default the new Index is created with the name "unnamed".
7. (optional) Change the new index name:

7.1. Select the Index by clicking the index name.
7.2. Double click the index name.
7.3. Edit the name.

8. On the Index List window click:

    • OK: To close the Index List and display the last selected index from the Index List in section 3. Index Map.
    • Cancel: To close the Index List and display the index selected before opening the Index List in section 3. Index Map.

Delete a user defined Index 

 
Warning: The formulas of the indices created, modified, or removed will be saved in the current .p4d project file but do not impact other projects.

1. On the Menu bar, click View > Index Calculator. 


2. On the Index Calculator Sidebar, in section 3. Index Map, click Indices...


3. Select the Index to be deleted.
4. Click Remove.


5. On the Index List window click:

    • OK: To close the Index List and display the last selected Index from the Index List in section 3. Index Map.
    • Cancel: To close the Index List and display the index selected before opening the Index List in section 3. Index Map.
 
Warning: When deleting an already-generated Index, all the generated output files (Index Map and Colored Index Map) will be DELETED.
