In order to draw a new orthoplane in the rayCloud:
1. On the menu bar, click View > rayCloud.
2. On the menu bar, click rayCloud > New Orthoplane.
3. In the 3D View, an orthoplane box appears beside the mouse. Left-click to place the box on a 3D point.
4. Adjust the orthoplane box so that it is parallel to the object (the facade of a building, the slope of a hill, etc.):
- Drag the arrows of the orthoplane box to move it and place it at the desired location. Drag the:
- Red arrow to move it towards the X direction.
- Green arrow to move it towards the Y direction.
- Blue arrow to move it towards the Z direction.
Or use the Position (X,Y,Z) options of the right sidebar: Menu View > rayCloud > Right sidebar > Objects.
- Drag the spheres of the orthoplane box to resize it. Drag the:
- Red sphere to resize the X length.
- Green sphere to resize the Y length.
- Blue sphere to resize the Z length.
Or use the Width, Height, Clipping Distance options of the right sidebar: Menu View > rayCloud > Right sidebar > Objects.
- Use the Orientation (Yaw, Pitch, Roll) options of the right sidebar to rotate the orthoplane box: Menu View > rayCloud > Right sidebar > Objects.
5. (optional) Click Flip to change the orientation and direction of the orthoplane.
6. (optional) If at least one surface object is drawn (How to draw a Surface in the rayCloud), click Align to align the orthoplane with an existing surface. (Select the desired surface from the drop-down list).
7. Click Apply to save the changes made under the Properties section of the right sidebar.
In order to generate the orthomosaic of a facade:
1. Draw a New Orthoplane. For step by step instructions: How to draw a new orthoplane.
2. Set the Resolution [cm/pixel] of the orthomosaic. For more information about the orthoplane options: Menu View > rayCloud > Right sidebar > Objects.
3. (optional) Select the Generate DSM box to generate a DSM.
4. Select the file path where the orthomosaic will be stored.
5. Click Generate.
Hi, the generated ortomosaic is it to scale? in my experience it seems the photo is not to scale when I input it into autocad.
Hello Sin,
The ortho generated when using an orthoplane is not georeferenced but it is scaled. It has the same scale as the project.
Regards.
Hi Daniel, but when I import into autocad I did some quick measurement and it is not tally with the actual size.
Hi again.
Is your Pix4D project scaled? By saying that I mean if you have either GCPs or a scale constraint.
Regards.
Hello,
I was wondering if there was a way to edit the facade in mosaic editor?
Hello,
No, there is no way to edit the facade in Mosaic Editor. Every change should be done prior to facade generation, for example using the Annotation Tool. More in the video above.
Regards
Hello,
I have the same problem than Sin Yang Chop.
My project is georeferenced, but the ortoplan is not at the good scale when I open it in Global Mapper...
Do you know where the problem could be?
Thanks
Hi Ariance,
the orthoplane, i.e. the orthomosaic of a vertical or oblique surface, is not georeferenced. It is placed in an arbitrary coordinate system unlike the orthomosaic. However, the orthoplane should be scaled. Make sure that the .tfw file is correctly recognized in the software you are using.
Good afternoon
When creating an orthomosaic of a facade from my project the loading bar continually jams at 47% loading of the point cloud. Is this likely to be an issue with the graphics card/data set?
My graphics card is a Quadro M2000 and has processed the large data set very slowly throughout.
Thanks
Hi Robert,
since the process is stuck while loading the point cloud this could indicate that the computer resources are not optimal and the point cloud might be too big.
Could you try changing the Processing Options to generate fewer 3D Points and try it again?
Hi. Is it possible to have Pix4D tile the oblique orthomosaics or is it only a single image? Sometimes they get too large for our CAD programs to handle and it is a pain to manually break the area down in Pix4D and produce multiple orthoplanes that are on the same plane. Cheers
Hi Caleb. The ortho is actually created as a tiled output and then stitched together to create the whole image. You can find the files that are generated in the directory that follows "Project_folder\3_dsm_ortho\2_mosaic\tiles". Otherwise, you can cut it into specific chunks in GIS. Also, one recommendation I can make is to lower the GSD of the ortho in step 3 processing options before running. THis only minimally reduces the visual quality while drastically impacting the file size. Hope this helps
Hi Holden. I only get the tiles for nadir orthomosaics produced in Step 3, I don't get tiled images generated from Orthoplanes, such as I use for vertical surfaces like building facades.
Can you please confirm if Pix4D produces tiles for oblique orthomosaics generated from Orthoplanes, and what version that is in? Cheers
Hi Caleb. The tiles for the orthofacade are not stored locally like the regular orthomosaic. If you want to tile the orthofacade it needs to be done in another application. Feel free to provide your feedback to the developers if you would like to see this feature added to Mapper.

Hello how i will create an orthofacede of a church using my slr camera (sony a5000 with 16mm fixed lens) ? is it possible how i will find a step by step guide ?
Hi Georgios,
Have you tried to import your images in Pix4Dmapper?
Normally it should recognize your camera even if there is no geolocation.
For orthoplan, we recommend to have as much frontal images as possible with good overlap.
Because our algorithm gets some issue when reconstructing an orthoplan when there is oblique images.
There is no other guide than this article.
I would also recommend you to use GCPs as your camera does not store the geolocation information.
This will allow you to make measurements on your model:

Best,
Why I obtain to noisy orthomosaic?
I have a perfect point Cloud and 3d Mesh...
Hi,
We would need more details to provide assistance in the most efficient way. Could you please submit a ticket to Pix4D Support Team and send us the following?
