Processing time - PIX4Dcloud

This article describes the main factors that influence the processing time of projects in PIX4Dcloud.

Licenses: This article is valid for PIX4Dcloud Starter and PIX4Dcloud Pro licenses (formerly PIX4Dcloud Advanced).

Roles: Only Owners, Managers, and Editors can create and process datasets in PIX4Dcloud.

Factors affecting processing time

The total processing time of a PIX4Dcloud dataset depends on a combination of project characteristics, selected processing options, and platform workload.

Project characteristics

  • Number of images
A higher number of images generally increases processing time.

  • Image resolution
Images with higher resolution (more pixels) require more computation and therefore increase processing time.

  • Image overlap
Higher overlap between images increases the amount of data to be processed and typically results in longer processing times.

  • Image geolocation quality
Missing, inaccurate, or inconsistent geotags may require additional processing steps and increase processing time.

Processing options

  • Processing template and quality settings
Higher quality, resolution, or point density settings require more computation and extend processing time.

  • Requested outputs
Generating multiple outputs (for example, point cloud, mesh, orthomosaic, and DSM) increases the overall processing duration.

Platform workload

  • Server traffic
Processing time may vary depending on the number of datasets being processed simultaneously on PIX4Dcloud servers.

Notes for PIX4Dcloud Pro users

Users with a PIX4Dcloud Pro license have access to additional advanced features, such as site-based workflows and enhanced analysis tools. These features do not reduce raw processing time but may add extra preparation or post-processing steps depending on the workflow used.

Recommendations

  • Upload only images that are relevant to the project to avoid unnecessary processing of irrelevant areas.

  • Select the processing template that best matches the intended use case to ensure optimal performance.

  • Verify that the project meets the minimum requirements for successful processing. For more information, see Best practices and capabilities for PIX4Dcloud.

Processing time estimates

Processing time estimates shown in PIX4Dcloud are approximate and may change during processing. Depending on project complexity and server load, processing may take longer than initially estimated.

A PIX4Dcloud project can require up to 72 hours to complete processing.
