Troubleshooting - PIX4Dcapture

Follow

Prior to any flights

Basic checks

Ensure that:

Using the drone manufacturer's app

Ensure that:

  • The drone's camera and compass are calibrated.
  • No flight setting conflicts with the mission, including maximum altitude, beginner mode, geofences, etc.
  • The drone's fail-safe settings are configured so the drone will return home safely.
  • Basic features are working properly:
    • Manual takeoff and flying.
    • Live video feed of the camera.
    • Manual picture triggering.

Persistent fails

If the app cannot connect to the drone, a takeoff checklist item fails, or something went wrong during the mission:

  • Force quit Pix4Dcapture and reopen it: (Android, iOS) How to force quit an app.
  • Restart your mission from scratch. To do so, close and force quit the app, disconnect the cable from the mobile device, turn off the remote controller and the drone. Then switch on the drone and the controller, reconnect the USB cable and open Pix4Dcapture. On Android, launch Pix4Dcapture from Ctrl+plugin.
  • If possible, try another iOS or Android mobile device.
  • If possible, try another drone.
  • Try another USB cable.

Important: If the issue persists, we suggest have a look at the known issues and possible workarounds of the troubleshooter guide: Pix4Dcapture guide to troubleshoot issues.

    Hello,

I'm using Anafi  and Sony Xperia Z5 Compact (Android).

Is there a workaround for setting up the whitebalance and iso of Anafi camera?
The image getting captured is .jpeg curved, what means i got a lot of barrel distortion.

Anafi can do .jpeg rectangular for less distortion,
but the Pix4Dcapture app seems to overrite all settings done in FreeFlight 6 (version 6.6.2), Anafi (version 1.6.1)

    Kind regards,

    Moritz

    Hi Moritz,

Using Pix4Dcapture, the camera settings for the Anafi can not be controlled by the user and will be automatically set.
Also, Pix4Dcapture will acquire images with the Anafi using the highest resolution 5344x4016 (21.5MP). Then the distortions will be corrected using Pix4Dmapper. The behavior you are experiencing is then normal.

Hello, after update Ctrl+dji app from 1.96 to 1.97, app does not connect with mavic air. Also i update pix4DCapture to 4.6 to 4.7.  Please fix it.

There are several users who report the same problem on PlayStore. In order to use my drone, I download the previous version of ctrl + dji (1.9.6) and pix4dcapture (4.6) from the web and everything works without problems.

Las fotos que toma mi mavic pro estan desenfocadas si uso la aplicación pix4dcapture, pero si tomo la foto en manual sale normal, a que se deberá esto? Estare agradecido x su ayuda!

  • Kapil (Pix4D)

    Hi Nelson,

We are aware of some issues with the image focus when flying the DJI Mavic Pro. These issues seem to happen randomly as no clear pattern was identified so far. At the moment we recommend to try the procedure below. Developers are looking to find a solution so that it can be fixed in a future release.

    Recommendations:

    1. Setup the focusing action to C1/C2 of the remote controller (prior to the flight, in DJI GO).
    2. Fly the drone to the first waypoint and press C1/C2 to focus using DJI GO.
    3. Quit DJI GO app and Start the mission in Pix4Dcapture.

I'm using Capture on my Crystalsky and use for my Phantom 4 Pro. Every time I set a mission it disconnects from the drone and I'm unable to launch. I use Ctrl+DJI, but it always disconnects before launch. Is there something I need to change?

    Thanks!

  • Kapil (Pix4D)

    Hi Jay,

As a first step, I would suggest you go through all the basic checks and troubleshooting steps, as it will solve most of the issues that can be encountered if properly followed. I would also recommend you go through our page on How to install the latest compatible APKs on DJI CrystalSky and Yuneec ST16/ST16S.

I did all of what you said and it almost fixed it.
I get to the takeoff checklist but it keeps saying that the mission is not uploaded to the drone. (See photo).

How do I address this issue? I can’t click on anything for more info.

  • Kapil (Pix4D)

Hi, Are you using the Safe mode or Fast mode to acquire images? It has been reported in the past that the mission could fail to upload to the drone, especially using iOS and double grid. I would recommend the following suggestions:

    - Restart everything from scratch. To do so, close and force quit the app, disconnect the cable from the mobile device, turn off the remote controller, and the drone. Then switch on the drone and the controller, reconnect the USB cable, and open Pix4Dcapture.
    - Try to play with the surface of the mission or create a new one.
    - When going through the drone takeoff checklist, try to switch the mode on the remote controller from P to another one, tap Cancel, switch the mode back to P, and go again through the takeoff checklist.
    - Try to use the Fast mode if currently using the Safe mode to trigger images. In most of the cases, the quality of the images will be good using the fast mode and the time flight will be shorter.

    Hello,

There are no plans to support DJI Mavic Air 2 in 2020. If things change, we will post in our Supported drones, cameras, and controllers page to inform.

    Thank you

  • COLIN GEEL

    Hi there

I am using a phantom 4 pro and need to fly a polygon mission at 55m with a 75% overlap. What I am not sure of is does the app automatically choose the speed or do I need to set this manually and if so what speed setting should it be set at? The terrain is flat and open with  buildings here and there. I have to admit that the settings pop up menu is really tiny and sensitive when using the Slides. There seems to be 6 speed settings ranging from slow to fast. In my bit of research slow = 2m/s to fast = 15m/s. Each setting would move up by 2,5m/s.

    Regards Colin

  • Kapil (Pix4D)

    Hi Colin,

The app computes the maximum speed the drone can have for a given overlap and flight altitude. The Fast speed corresponds to 100% of the maximum speed, meaning technically you could fly at 15m/s. However, I would suggest you fly at Normal or Normal+ rather than the maximum speed.

I just got the parrot bluegrass fields drone with the pix4Dfeilds subscription.  I am trying to fly over the fields on my farm. However the map that is available on pix4Dfeilds is 10 years out dated and none of my fields are on the map because all of my fields are new.

Is there any way to use a newer map, and how do I use a custom map?  I need help with this ASAP

    Thank you.

  • Fernanda Bosmediano

    Hey,

You can add the URL for the map service in Pix4Dfields. You can find more information here: Custom basemaps

Let us know if you have any questions.

    Hi,

I tried to take a flight today with bebop 2, and in check list all was good except ''set up country for drone wi fi''. I uninstalled and installed again both ctr+parrot and  pix4d capture, yet still nothing positive came out of that. Please did anyone had the same issue or it's just me?, what to do, any advise would appreciate.

    Regards

    Tom

  • Kapil (Pix4D)

    Hi Tomislav,

The Bebop 2 is compatible with Skycontroller 2 only. It is not compatible while connecting using the Wifi. For more information, visit Supported drones, cameras, and controllers page.

If that is not the case, if an unexpected behavior occurs, we suggest going all along with our basic checks and troubleshooting steps as it will solve most of the issues that can be encountered by users.

    Hi Kapil,

I used three phones, change cables, uninstall and again install, check app permissions on all three phones.

Problem was my wife's S6 has Android 7 software version, and other two 7 and 8 Android versions. I did read it is mentioning version of Android, but wasn't sure is that you must have 7 or at least 7 and above versions.

So pix4d capture works only on Android 7 ??? it did not crashed and it gave me option to set up Australia for the wi fi country.

    Cheers

  • Kapil (Pix4D)

    Hi Tomislav,

To confirm, are you saying that you are using Skycontroller 2, android device, and using the cable to connecting your Sky controller 2 to the mobile device?

Pix4Dcapture is compatible with android 4.0 or higher. So, it should work with Android 7. It looks like there is some communication issue. Can you try to follow the steps explained in the below article and see if that solves your problem?

How To Fix Connection Issues Parrot Bebop 2 Drone

How to Link Parrot SkyController 2 to Parrot Bebop 2

If the issue persists, we suggest have a look at the known issues and possible workarounds of the troubleshooter guide: Pix4Dcapture guide to troubleshoot issues.

  • Tomislav Bionda

    Hi Kapil,

Yes, skycontroller 2 , yes android device, and i am using cable to connect Sky controller 2 with my mobile device.

I followed the steps, but app (ctrl+parrot) is crashing, it doesn't give me option to chose country to set up for wi fi (pix4d capture)/instead it pop up message that the other app ctrl+parrot is closing (send feedback, open again), but on other device that has android 7 it works, not on my device where i have android 8. My phone device (android 8) is telling me that one app is causing a problem (ctrl+parrot) and it shows that it crashed 38 times today.

I turned of Bluetooth, wifi, turned off all other apps except ctrl+parrot and pix4d capture.

I follow the instructions from the articles, problem still persists.

Thank you for advice's. I will keep using other device with android 7 version.

    Cheers

    Tom

This is a full collapse with Pix4dcapture. Every time I launched my mavic air, I was constantly worried and rechecked everything several times. This time, he simply did not return to the landing zone. I planned the mission, launched the quadcopter, the UAV gained an altitude of 75 meters, flew to the starting point of the survey (530 m), flew to this point and never returned, the connection with the quadrocopter was lost. The battery was charged for exactly 9 minutes of flight. If it started to discharge, there was a reinsurance, the drone should return, but this also did not happen. What can be done, how to find it, tell me as a technical support specialist?

    Best regards,
    KL

  • Kapil (Pix4D)

    Hello,

We are sincerely sorry to hear about this bad experience. Pix4Dcapture is acting as a third-party application and can not be responsible when the drone crashes/fly away as we cannot give instructions that would override the safe behavior of the drone such as RTH, a different mode of the controller. When the situation becomes out of control, it is coming from the drone itself. Normally taking over manual control should prevent incidents from happening. You can have a look at our article on how to interrupt a mission when unexpected behavior occurs here.

Several years on (2020 now), it is disappointing that the only mapping app I trust for best results, doesn't do what all others can do; P4DCapture doesn't Load, perform and capture images at stated intervals flawlessly. In fact, loading even small missions is often a MAJOR time waster and nightmare (I have lost mapping days...not minutes or even hours.....because of this)!

P4DCapture is great, when it works. Most of the time it doesn't. Others Mission apps (with 2 D's in their name) are bullet proof loading and capturing, but P4DCapture is still better.....and I'm desperate for it to work.

Please advise how with my iPad mini 4 and P4Adv I can resolve these issues that seem to be getting worse.

MISSIONS DON'T LOAD!!! And now, Aircraft/Icon 20-30 second lag on screen is resulting in mis-timed captures. NOT GOOD!!!

I'd gladly pay for an upgraded (but BULLET PROOF) version as your capture capability is the best!!

    Hello!

I have a Parrot Bluegrass with a Sequoia camera.

I use it with the Skycontroller 2 and Ipad Air with IOS 13.4.1

The problem I have is that at the end of the mission, it creates a folder in the SD but without photos. And in some cases it only takes a few images.

The exact same thing happens if use an Android device

    Could you help me?

    Thank you

  • Eugeny Eftov

  • Badra Gusti

    Thank you

  • Kapil (Pix4D)

    Hello Eugeny,

I would then suggest to you:

    - to zoom out until you can see your position on the world map then position the grid over the desired location.

    - Tap the button to recenter the grid over your current GPS position. (button on the bottom left corner of the screen).

    Hi there,

I have a customer who is having issues loading the mission in Pix4D Capture, he is using Parrot Anafi and Pix4D capture version 4.12.1.
He used it a couple of weeks ago and did work well using the same phone but now it doesn't.

After that we tried the drone with Freeflight6 (Parote flight software) it does take off and lands, also he was able to do manual flights see the camera all of that.

Any thoughts on what is going on with this issue?
